Privacy Policy

Who we are

The Georgia Chronicle publishes at thegeorgiachronicle.com. You can reach us at hello@thegeorgiachronicle.com.

What we collect and why

Reading The Georgia Chronicle does not require an account, and we do not ask you for personal information to read articles.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand which articles are read, from where, and on what kinds of devices. Google Analytics sets cookies and records information such as your approximate location, browser, pages visited, and how you arrived at the site. We use this to decide what to publish. Google’s handling of this information is described in Google’s Privacy Policy. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Advertising. We show advertisements through Google AdSense, which pays for the site. Google and its partners use cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, to show ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. You can turn off personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings or at aboutads.info. How Google uses information from sites that use its services is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Email you send us. If you email a tip or a note, we keep the email so we can reply and follow up on the story. We do not add you to any list.

Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard web server logs (IP address, time, page requested, browser) for security and troubleshooting. These are retained for a limited period and are not used to identify individual readers.

Cookies

Cookies on this site come from Google Analytics and Google AdSense, described above. The site itself sets a cookie only when a staff member logs in to the editing system. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work.

Embedded content

Articles may embed content from other sites, such as videos or social media posts. Embedded content behaves as if you had visited the other site directly, and that site may collect data about you, use cookies, and track your interaction with the embedded content.

Links to Facebook and other services

We share our articles on Facebook and may link to other services. Those services have their own privacy policies, and we do not control what they collect.

Who we share data with

We do not sell reader information. The only parties that receive data about your visit are Google (analytics and advertising, described above) and our hosting provider, which stores the site and its logs.

Your choices

You can read the site with cookies blocked, opt out of Google Analytics and personalized ads using the links above, and ask us to delete any email you have sent us by writing to hello@thegeorgiachronicle.com.

Changes to this policy

If we add a newsletter or other features that collect information, we will update this page before they go live. The date of the last change appears below.
